Mechanical Principles (1930) by Ralph Steiner [4min selection]

This is my favorite 4min selection of a larger work by Ralph Steiner. The original was silent, and the DVD had it set to classical music. I have swapped the audio for an electronica/industrial track by 3 Liquid Hz – Little Boy.

Favorite movements:
@ 1:16 – counter mechanism
@ 2:55 – normal gears, but cut to engage on diagonals
@ 3:37 – SQUARE GEARS!
@ 3:41 – variable speed transfer
@ 3:46 – rotary to linear action with a 4 tooth cog

Several users have commented that these gears may be on display at The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, IL.

Ingenuity of old times, but all the sudden electrical engineers develop ic computing, relay, actuators with adopting pneumatics, hidrolics, and servo motors then most of them are forgotten.

As i read Steiner i thought it was from the Steiner who invented the "Satz von Steiner" aka. "Parallel axis theorem" or "Huygens–Steiner theorem"… turns out that guy lived 100 years earlier.

  20. I stumbled on this looking for a very especific mecanism while moderately high. It's unbelievable how nice this feels.

Wow, I can't imagine the amount of mathematics it would take to predict the moves.

Cuál es el nombre de la música que suena?

  23. Sadly these are all fake. Objective rotors are moved individually and not due to the reaction of subjective kinetic tool. It's obvious

Nice to see that all of Dear Leaders inventions will now be shared with the world for all to prosper since his greatest and only Grand Son Kim Jong Un has decided in all his majesty to bring peace upon the world and discontinue his NUMBER 1 WORLD LEADING nuclear program. A program that is so much better than any other countries nuclear program since Best Korea is the only country to have ever been able to crumble the mountains of the hardest land in all of this Flat Earth.
