Michael Pritchard: How to make filthy water drinkable Too much of the world lacks access to clean drinking water. Engineer Michael Pritchard did something about it — inventing the portable Lifesaver filter, which can make the most revolting water drinkable in seconds. An amazing demo from TEDGlobal 2009.

Aaaaand he died of dysentery! Not, but that is gross water and most filters don't filter small enough for bacteria or viruses. Most bacterial cells range in size from 0.2 microns and viruses from .017. Bleach will kill these but this bottle doesn't have bleach.

OMG I just checked out the prices for these lifesaver water bottles and geezys cripes $180-$230AUD Looks like I'm drinking contaminated water when shtf 🍻👀🤣 I thought he was all about helping the people. Why make something people can't afford.

The end of the video sums up what we all are thinking. When he started on the 8 billion dollar rant to fund his little project all the way to everyone will live.. no one clapped.. no ohhs and awes… Then he said "thank you" and of course everyone clapped out of politeness. Making money off of other peoples misery is disgusting. What's with the other devise? Looks like he was beating that thing off and then all of a sudden just release this valve and it blows its load all over the place.

Fluoride and Chloride and feces abound in Englands tap water. Would this bottle get rid of these pollutants?

  5. Thomas Healy says:

Will this method remove Fluoride and chloride?

Why doesn't someone just teach them to boil water. That will do the job quite sufficiently. Strain it through cloth. may not taste great but hey, it's safe.

Nice filter, but Louisiana’s water was contaminated by chemicals which this filter will NOT filter.
    It filters particulate

My first thought was, how big is a virus then I read a comment below that a virus is not filtered out. Better boil the water for at least 20 minutes before you drink it if you use this. Even then it's still a bad idea to drink the water because heavy metals and other poisonous chemicals probably won't filter out at all. Theirs no magic bullet.

he says he built the live saver bottle because he got angry, but it looks like to me he saw a way to make some money. the reason for the pump is you have to force the contaminated water to go through the filter because of it's small micron holes witch takes out the pathogens then I am sure it goes through some other filtration media, like carbon and maybe even chlorine. but too expensive really. and I would have to test it myself before I would believe that little bottle can filter 1585 gallons. he says his bottle makes the water sterile. Sterilization is just a way of killing all harmful pathogens. he does it by filtration, the pathogens cant get past the filter, as long as the filter doesn't happen to have a few holes a little larger here and there, I guess you just have to trust it doesn't. you don't need to do it that way. just boil the water, killing all pathogens then filter it through a bio-sand filter. done.

That filter bucket-tray-windmill contraption was leaking everywhere making a puddle of grey water… not sure it's the best idea.
