I have a 2011 Sanyo flat screen DP46840 that clicks on and off three times then locks you out just like in the this video. However, I have looked over the main board excessively and have found no burn marks or bubbles of any kind. I followed instructions from another video that said to unplug the main board and listen for the clicking, there was none. The clicking only happens with main board plugged in. I tested all the stars on the main board and barely any of them give me anything close to what they are supposed to. I am not a television mechanic and cant even begin to understand how any of it works. Should I purchase a new main board or purchase a repair kit instead? Is there anything else I can do to find the problem? Can you help me?

  6. I like how he says power botton 😂

I was gifted the 46" version and symptoms are the same. Shuts down after 4-5 seconds.
Testing, I get 13v at the audio test point but it gradually drops over a few seconds and then the unit shuts off. There is no obvious burn to the ic chip mentioned. I get 12v at the test point marked for 12-15v. Aside from the 13v audio test point, the other test points all hold voltage until unit shuts off.
    Pin 48 reads 4.5v.
I experimented with removing various connectors and surprisingly the backlights came on for a short period once i disconnected connector at K8L. then once while I was testing voltage at the 12-15v test point, the entire tv turned on and stayed on until shut down, then no restart. Don't know if sound was working since no signal but menu came up. Might just be a fluke?
Not sure if it is audio chip related but the voltage does drop at that 13v test point and then unit shuts off.
Would it help isolating the audio issue to disconnect the speakers? I seem to be going in circles.

  9. Yay! It worked for me, I also had to replace both of those capacitors that you removed, after I roasted them with my new surface hot air station, bwhahhahaha. Thanks again for posting this.

  10. WOW ShopJimmy is off my list now. I called to get help with either ordering a board or the repair service for my board. I was told that they don't carry the board anymore and stopped doing repairs on the boards. I asked then if they could help me with what I need to do to fix the board and I was told No. I was told they know how to fix them and won't fix them and won't help anyone with fixing them. If you are no longer doing that then why not help? Sorry Not Sorry Jimmy… No longer a customer….!

  11. quick question. what happens if I take that piece off and dont replace it? will the TV work but just not have sound? or will it not work at all? I'm wanting to buy a soundbar but I'm guessing I need this part installed to do so!? thanks!!!

  12. dick downs says:

Great video! However, both Mouser.com and digikey.com say that the IC is no longer available. So, I will try to find 13V from somewhere else on the board and solder a jumper wire from the 13V source to the pin.

  13. I was watching Utube, tried turning volume down, wrong button? Now getting, No Signal?
My WII SYSTEM isn't recognized. Settings need resettings? Help Please? Thanks.

  14. Jon Phillips says:

  16. This fits my circumstance like a hand in a glove. Now I just need to find a technician who 1) fixes TVs and 2) is willing to watch this perfect tutorial. Thank you for putting your expertise right out for all to learn from.

  17. mrsemifixit says:

Is there a smaller voltage at the p_fail constantly if the audio power isn't there or its just connected to ground?

  18. Stan Skaggs says:

Great job! Where did you reference to ground when checking your voltages on the Sanyo boards? Was there a pad labeled as the ground point to use for reference for the voltages?

  19. scott kern says:

SAME PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THE DP42840…AFTER THE 3 TIME TURNING IT BACK ON IT WILL NO LONGER COME BACK ON….UNLESS I UNPLUG IT. THEN TRY AGAIN…..THERE ARE TIMES WHEN IT WILL STAY ON….AND FOR ALONG TIME…AND OTHER TIMES NOT LONG AT ALL….THIS IS VERY HELP FULL BUT CANT DO EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE THIS TV….SO I MIGHT HAVE TO SAY GOOD BUY TO THE TV….OR WHAT

  20. Hi, many thanks for the video. I have a question, I have the same problem, so I check the voltage for 13v and it give me 13.8
Its that a bad thing? or it is another problem?.
    many thanks for your response
